Muriwai Gannet Colony
Photograph the Gannet Colony under the stars. This is one of the few locations in New Zealand where you can photograph wildlife and astro at the same time!
We’ll shoot from 5pm to catch the sunset, through to 1am when the milkyway will arch across the horizon. If we’re lucky we’ll even catch some bioluminescence in the waves.
Specialist equipment is available from Lumix, Samyang, and iOptron . We can provide astro-optimized lenses for all major camera brands.

The Milky Way over the Tidal Estuaries in Whatipu

Master Astro Photography on Whatipu Beach, our favorite location in Auckland. This breathtaking beach has almost 360 degree views, allowing you to capture the Milky Way the whole night through. Snap the stars over Nine Pin Lighthouse, catch the arch over Paratutae Island, photograph the reflections in the tidal rivers. This location has it all.
We have a range of equipment for all cameras to ensure you get the most out of the evening thanks to Lumix, Astronz and Samyang.
We’ll teach you stitching, panoramic grids, and advanced students can learn to shoot with Star Trackers for the ultimate astro photography experience.

Watch clouds stream overhead, see the lights turn on downtown, catch spectacular car trails, and much more…
We’ll create stunning day-to-night transitions in the heart of Auckland, using a selection of motion control heads from Syrp to capture amazing moving time lapses.
Learn how to manually adjust your camera for smooth transitions as the light changes, and how to put the whole time-lapse together in post.
We’ll start a couple of hours before sunset, and finish with editing and a beer somewhere close to the shoot.

Piecing a panorama together in ptGUI
Astro-Photography Editing Workshop
We cover so much software in our on-location astro courses that it can be a bit overwhelming. So we’ve put on a class just for editing, where we can take our time, and stay warm!
We’ll take you through the whole astro-photography process from start to finish, with a lot of extra detail on the post-processing side of things that we usually don’t have time for.

Adobe Photoshop
Sequator
ptGUI
We’ll get into complex panoramas, advanced noise reduction, bringing out colour and detail in the galactic core, star minimization, and more….
Bring your laptop and any astro images you’ve shot (either on our workshops or by yourself). During the last couple of hours I’ll go around the class and help each of you with your individual shots.
